Bulgaria already has its own domain .ею in Cyrillic
Sofia, May 31, 2016 - Starting on June 1 everyone in the European Union will be able to register a domain in Cyrillic. Today EURid, the organization that manages the European domain .eu, together with the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria presented to the country its new domain .ею.
"We are happy to see the results of our hard work in the last 7 years that made it possible to give this present today to Bulgaria. With the European domain in Cyrillic we make a giant step towards the Digital Single Market in Europe by providing an opportunity to all Bulgarians to use the Internet in their native language. .ею has an important role in the multilingualism in the EU and through it Bulgaria now has unique presence in the Internet.", said Giovanni Sepia, International Relations Manager at EURid.
All domain names registered in Cyrillic under the .eu (Latin string) will undergo an adjustment phase to meet the rule for matching all top and second level scripts. After the phase the domains will have the new .ею domain extension. With it Bulgarian web sites will now have a peculiar profile in the European Internet space.
The domains in Cyrillic give many benefits to their owners. For the citizens it's the easier access to Internet in their native language. They won't need to search for a particular way of writing with Latin symbols of letters from the alphabet like Ъ, Щ, Я or Ю. For the business it is important that the domains can be indexed easier by the search engines. Thus the web sites are easily found by all and optimized according to the right word, which their clients search for. The Bulgarian business organizations will easily reach their clients in the country through the precise writing of their name and business idea in their native language. They will also be able to proudly state that they work and their roots are Bulgarian.
